In the first of a series of articles based on topical issues, Talysis delved into Irish food price inflation, looking at what has happened over the last 12 months and what is predicted to happen next.
The article revealed how Talysis looked at various baskets, such as food cupboard, fridge essentials and alcohol, and considered aspects such as shrinkflation and promotional activity, to determine what the future held.
The conclusion from Ed Roberts, MD of Talysis, was as follows:
“The interrogation of our data shows a more positive outlook for retailers and consumers alike, as supply chain costs reduce and inflationary pressures start to ease. We are seeing a real slowing of inflation and whilst pack sizes may have reduced in some instances, they’re not being used to disguise major price rises; instead, they’re more of a tactic by manufacturers and retailers to maintain price points and keep shopping bills at realistic levels. All indications point towards a further fall in inflation over the rest of 2024, although as ever, geo-political factors could affect its momentum either way.”
